SafeAlert is committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what data we collect, why we collect it, and how we keep it safe. We comply with the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation (NDPR) and applicable international standards.
1. Who We Are
SafeAlert is a personal safety application operated in Nigeria. We provide emergency alert services, heart rate monitoring through wearable devices, and real-time location sharing during distress events.

2. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: Full name, email address, phone number, blood type (optional), medical notes (optional)
- Emergency contacts: Names and phone numbers of people you designate as emergency contacts
- Emergency PIN: A 4-digit code you create to cancel false alerts (stored encrypted on your device)
- Agency information: Security agency name, phone number, and API endpoint if you configure one
Information collected automatically
- Location data: Your GPS coordinates during an active SOS alert only. We do not track your location at any other time
- Health data: Heart rate readings from your connected smart ring. This data is processed locally and is only used to detect distress patterns
- Device information: Push notification token (to send you alerts), device type, and operating system version
- Usage data: Alert history, credit usage, and app interactions to improve our service
Information from third parties
- Bluetooth device identifiers from your paired smart ring
- Payment information processed by Google Play / Apple App Store (we do not store card details)
3. How We Use Your Information
- Delivering emergency alerts: Sending SMS and WhatsApp messages with your location to emergency contacts when an SOS is triggered
- Server-side monitoring: Detecting when your phone goes offline during an active alert and notifying contacts accordingly
- Account management: Creating and maintaining your SafeAlert account
- Payment processing: Managing subscriptions and alert credit purchases
- Customer support: Responding to your enquiries and resolving issues
- Service improvement: Analysing anonymised usage patterns to improve reliability and features
- Security: Detecting fraudulent activity and protecting our platform
4. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We only share it as follows:
- Your emergency contacts: Your name, phone number, live location, and medical information are shared with your contacts when you trigger an SOS alert
- Security agencies: If you configure an agency, your alert data is sent to them during an emergency
- SafeAlert Responders: Verified responders near you may receive your name and location during an active alert
- Service providers: We use Firebase (Google), Termii, Twilio, and RevenueCat to operate our service. These providers are contractually bound to protect your data
- Legal requirements: We may disclose data if required by Nigerian law or a valid court order
5. Data Storage and Security
- Your data is stored on Google Firebase infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit
- Your emergency PIN is stored locally on your device using encrypted secure storage and is never transmitted to our servers
- Location data is only stored while an alert is active and is retained for 90 days in alert history
- We use industry-standard security practices including API key authentication and role-based access controls
6. Data Retention
- Account data: retained while your account is active and for 30 days after deletion
- Alert history: retained for 12 months
- Location data: retained for 90 days after an alert resolves
- Payment records: retained for 7 years as required by Nigerian financial regulations
7. Your Rights (NDPR)
Under the Nigeria Data Protection Regulation, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of all personal data we hold about you
- Correction: Update inaccurate information through the Profile section of the app
- Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Objection: Object to certain processing of your data
- Portability: Request your data in a portable format

8. Children's Privacy
SafeAlert is not intended for children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately.

10. Changes to This Policy
